SSL called as the Secured Socket Layer is a security protocol which enables the secured connection between the web server and the user’s browser. SSL will protect the information that is being shared between the users computer and the web browsers.
Types of SSL Certificates:
- Domain Validated Certificate
- Organization Validated Certificate
- Extended Validation certificate
Domain Validated Certificate:
Domain Validated Certificate is the certificate which is checked against the domain registry. There is no identical organization information for this type of certificate. Also, this is the cheapest SSL that is available for the website owners. There is more risk factor exists on this type of certificate when used on the public websites. This type of SSL is recommended for the websites where the security is not the main concern.
Organization Validated Certificate:
Organization validated certificates are more trusted, these type of certificates are authenticated by the real agents for business registry databases, The business registry databases are hosted by the government. You need to exchange many documents and the business owners may be contacted in person to ensure the proper use. This contains all the necessary information about the organization.
Extended Validation Certificate:
The extended validation certificate is the more secured type of SSL. This is used by most of the large organization. When you use the Extended Validation certificate, your brand name will be displayed on the address bar in addition to the green padlock symbol. This ensures the high-level security for the information being shared between the server and the user browser. You can able to see this type of certificate in the bank websites, where the high level of security is mandatory.
Thus SSL is not meant that only the website handling the online payments should have. Instead, it is mandatory for all the websites right from the normal blogs to the business websites. Recently Google has announced that they are going to show a “Not Secure” information on the address bar on the websites which don’t have the SSL in it. This will restrict the users from visiting your website resulting in the increase in the bounce rate.
